about pause. connect. heal.

At Pause Connect Heal, we believe we are each our own best healers. However, at times of stress, loss and trauma we may require support.  Other times, we may need guidance to nurture our sense of trust and self-efficacy.

Pause Connect Heal is a holistic model to provide people with support for dealing with fear, anxiety or other difficult life issues, including change. We offer an integrative approach and provide a safe place for people to pause from life’s hectic pace to connect with themselves and understand where they have come from and where they can go to next.

The process of healing is an organic one which is inevitably complicated by our resistance to change, fear of the unknown, negative beliefs, past experiences, maladaptive behaviour patterns, self-doubt, and not having sufficient knowledge of the tools to change.

Pause Connect Heal provides the compassionate support, guidance, tools and roadmap for effective change.

Strategies to support people’s healing journey are tailored to meet their needs. Pause Connect Heal aims to assist people to live their life to their full potential.

Meet Jane O’Keeffe, Psychologist & owner of Pause Connect Heal

I have always been interested in what motivates us as humans, and in why we think, behave and feel the way we do. Given the right supportive environment and if willing, I believe the human capacity for healing and growth is exponential.

I am passionate about supporting people to change the things that hold them back from living their best life. I am enormously grateful for my work and have deep respect for my clients. I value authenticity, openness, integrity, adventure and honesty.  I keep doing my own inner work so I can be as open as possible with my clients.

I began my own healing journey from childhood trauma in 1992. This included the impacts of intergenerational trauma and issues related to addiction in the extended family. I later had a near-death mountain bike accident in which I broke my neck. When I unexpectedly made a full recovery, I was left feeling extremely grateful for my life.

My experience of life was again impacted when the small block of apartments in which I lived caught fire and four of my neighbours died.

I was in a relationship at the time that was a re-creation of the emotional environment in which I grew up.

I left the relationship but then developed chronic fatigue syndrome. My body was telling me to stop. I learned how to pause and go within to connect with and heal my unresolved trauma.

I came to understand the interplay of my negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I became aware that my nervous system was stuck in a stress response and that this had impacted my mental, emotional and physical health. I learned to trust my inner guidance as well as receive support from empathetic therapists along the way.

Pause Connect Heal emerged as a holistic model as a result of the many evidence- based techniques I have learnt and used professionally, as well as techniques I have personally used for my own healing over the years.

I have practiced (almost) daily meditation since 1992.

I am registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

I am a registered Medicare provider and a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi).
